We crossed over the Columbia River and into Oregon at the "Bridge of the Gods." The river itself is spectacular; I can hardly imagine what it must have felt like for Lewis, Clark, and their Corps of Discovery to first encounter this waterway to the Pacific Ocean.

After spending 5 days in Portland with Anthony and Kelly (two of the best people in the world), we made our way south to the Pacific Coast. Aware of the Pacific Northwest's reputation for hazy weather, I was nevertheless unable to get used to the constant fog that shrouded our days and cooled our nights. Still, the Oregon Coast afforded otherworldly views - from foggy, immense beaches to violent, churning coastal channels and staggering, seaside monoliths.
